2008 Fall Boot Camp

During the Month of November and December S4L hosted its first quarterly Spin/Boot Camp! The Camp consisted of 45 minutes of intense Spinning coupled with 45 minutes of a 9 station Boot Camp regiment. Water Service, a Free Spin4Life Towel, and Breakfast was provided to all. We had a total of 24 participants in all, that gave maximum efforts and did everything that was asked of them. We had different levels of fitness but in the end, everyone felt they got a major boost to their end of year training regiment.

Thanks to Ed Cooper (Physical Educator), Hector Leija and all the participants that made the Holiday Boot camp a success. We look forward to adding more “value add” events such as the Holiday Boot Camp in the near future!

Spin Technique

Spin class should be safe and fun for everyone. It should also be an awesome workout so here are a few techniques to make sure you are getting the most out of your spin experience:

1) Wear appropriate clothing including things like padded bicycle shorts and a shirt that helps absorb perspiration and keep you dry during your workout.

2) Keep the balls of your feet on the pedals at all times. This technique will help you pedal more efficiently and will make it less likely that your feet will slip off.

3) Don’t worry about competing with others. Rather, compete yourself and spin at a rate that is appropriate for you. Not everyone is at the same level in class, you are your only real competition so pedal against you!

4) Wear a heart monitor and know how to focus on a heart rate that is appropriate for you, your age and fitness level. Don’t  push yourself too hard but don’t use it as an excuse for not pushing yourself.  Know your heart rate levels where to be for an effective workout.

5) Mix up your routine.

Most importantly, don’t try to incorporate all of this at once, but rather add one thing at a time and stick with in. Inside a couple months of regular spinning you’ll be amazed at your progress!
